"YOU WILL RUE THIS DAY!"
— Nevel's catchphrase

Nevel Amadeus Papperman is the owner of Nevelocity.com, a web critic and one of the main antagonists in the iCarly series. He first appeared in iNevel.

Biography

Nevel is most notable for his successful review website, Nevelocity.com, which has millions of hits from Internet users across the globe. A few students at Carly's school claim that a web series is not cool if it doesn't receive a good review from his site (their primary reason for not watching iCarly).

His lifelong dream is to own his very own haberdashery, which, according to him, is a men's retail store that sells men's accessories such as wallets, hats, buttons, belts, ribbons, and zippers, and gets annoyed whenever people ask him what it is.

INevel

"You will rue this day!"

In iNevel, the 6th episode of season 1, Carly and Spencer go to his house in order to have an interview for iCarly. They are caught off-guard when discovering that Nevel, the creator and manager of a nationwide pundit website, is actually younger than Carly. After Spencer leaves to have tea with Nevel's mother, Carly shakily tries to start the interview, but it's made clear that Nevel has different ideas. He attempts to flirt with Carly (while complimenting himself), and finally steals a kiss, much to her disgust and anger. Furious at Carly's rejection (and because she threw tapenade in his face), Nevel swears revenge on Carly and her website, shouting how she would, "Rue the day!", and gives the iCarly website a horrible review. They attempt to make him tell the truth by inviting him over, and sending "Germy" (Jeremy) on him but he easily tricks Jeremy into letting him go by falsely offering him $10. After Sam and Freddie are ready to give up, Carly remembers that Nevel, though crafty and intelligent, is still only an 11-year-old, and they tell Ms. Papperman what he did. Ultimately, he is forced by his disappointed mother to give iCarly an honest (good) review.

Nevel as a girl

As a girl...

The young webshow critic returned to get revenge on Carly, Sam and Freddie in the iRue the Day, the 11th episode of season 1, when he hacked into the iCarly website and made everything go haywire. The iCarly team threaten to tell on Nevel again, only for him to tell them that his mother is leaving for a two-month cruise and that his "hopelessly confused" grandmother is babysitting, thus he cannot be tattled on and punished. Spencer, who saved the life of Tom Higgenson of The Plain White T's, managed to book them on iCarly, so Carly, Sam and Freddie tried to hack into Nevelocity, but Nevel, having prepared for this, used their network connection scheme to crash their website, then mocked them again, and created his own cruel parody of iCarly, where he dressed up as Carly and started singing a song insulting the webcast to the tune of "Old MacDonald Had a Farm". Thankfully, Carly called in Colonel Morgan (someone who works with Carly's dad)'s squad, who raided his house and threatened to arrest him. When Nevel begged for mercy, Carly decided not to press charges against him if he apologised and called himself a weenie.

Nevel-Igive away a car

In iGive Away a Car, the 9th episode of the 2nd season, Nevel hires a pawn posing as Jeffery Flanken, the son of a car dealer, to run a fake contest on iCarly to win a free car. Eventually, Nevel wins the contest and tells them they need to give him the car or else the iCarly website will be shut down for fraud. Sam and Freddie later find out that the new car doesn't exist, and all three of the iCarly members realize that they had been duped by Nevel into doing the contest after much harassment from then. After trying to give Nevel a junker car, they also find out that the car won't be considered "new" unless it drives at an appropriate speed. They use Spencer's "Galaxy Wars spaceship" prop (which, much to Spencer’s displeasure, was an imitation with multiple discrepancies between the real props) as the car. Nevel tries to drive it, hoping to find that the car would fall short of any parameters, but accidentally crashes it into a flower shop in the process. Due the car driving at an appropriate speed, the iCarly crew are allowed to keep their web show. Nevel had most likely faced legal trouble as a result of the accident, and it is unknown if the free car he had “won” had been totaled beyond use.

He also appears in iWant My Website Back, the 13th episode of season 2, where he tricks Mandy Valdez into selling him the iCarly website, and again, he creates a mocking version of iCarly using puppets. When confronted, he refuses to give the website back unless Carly willingly kisses him on the lips, which she agrees to. They meet behind the Bushwell Plaza and Nevel reveals he has two goons hired to make sure she doesn't try anything funny. Carly tricks Nevel into signing the website rights back to her and escapes via a rope back to her apartment. Nevel threatens that they'll rue the day (again) and gets guacamole spilled on him from above.

Nevell

In the movie IFight Shelby Marx, the 21st episode of season 2, after Carly accidentally knocks Shelby Marx's grandmother down, Nevel tricks Shelby into believing that Carly did it on purpose using his technical knowledge. At the fight, the iCarly crew confronts Nevel, who says he's only here to watch Carly bleed and cry. After the fight, it is revealed to Shelby that Nevel lied. Freddie drags Nevel into the arena and locks the cage, leaving Nevel to admit the truth to Carly, Sam, and secretly Shelby. As punishment, the three girls beat him up.

Nevel is not seen or mentioned throughout Season 3, but appeared in a few videos on iCarly.com during the production of Season 3.

He was also mentioned in iGet Pranky, the 3rd episode in season 4.

Nevel tied up in iPity the Nevel

In the 8th episode of season 4, iPity The Nevel, a video of him yelling at a little girl and breaking her lollipop in revenge for breaking his pickle jar is put on the internet, shattering his reputation. Now that Nevel has hit rock bottom he goes to the iCarly crew asking for a chance for redemption; though they are reluctant, they try to help him get back on his feet (they were convinced when Nevel drank from Sam's sweaty shoe filled with Wahoo Punch), after first hog-tying him up as a rodeo cowboy does to a bull. But after Nevel finally saves his reputation he completely blows it when a paraplegic man bumps into him, and Nevel has yet another outburst which is also filmed.

Nevel with his henchmen Demetri and Evon in iHalfoween

Nevel returned in iHalfoween, where he tried to get his revenge on the iCarlys for not helping him after the second incident with the man in the wheelchair. He came to the party dressed as a Purple Robot, first

Surprise

giving the iCarlys candy that made their voices really deep, and then locking Freddie in the Purple Robot suit to trick everyone into thinking the Purple Robot was him (which resulted in Freddie landing in the Jerk Basket 20 times until the iCarlys realized their error). Carly pretended to apologize, but then had Nevel put in the Jerk Basket as payback for tricking them into torturing Freddie.

Nevel2021

Nevel in iCarly (2021) Episode 5, "iRobot Wedding"

Nevel returns in the revival in episode 5, IRobot Wedding where he planned a fake wedding with a young woman named Prunella Pitz just to get Carly to marry him. However, what ended up happening was Prunella having fallen in love with him and Nevel has returned those feelings back so they decided to get married for real.

Nevel later returns with his wife Prunella in IFaked It, and creates a deepfake of Carly as revenge for not getting them a wedding gift within 1 year, where it looks like she is promoting a product that is making the residents sick. However, Carly and her friends used Nevel's own trick against by masquerading as him and Prunella in a deepfake, admitting to the sham and humiliating them further. Nevel is forced to admit defeat and Prunella almost divorces Nevel, due to her believing all they had as a couple was to mess with Carly, but they stay together.

Physical Appearance

Nevel is of average to short height and blonde.

In iRobot Wedding, Nevel wears a silver suit and a robotic arm to his robot-themed wedding. Underneath, he wears a white dress shirt with a black bow tie. His hair was sleeked back. He had some stickers on his face and a mustache.

In iFaked It, Nevel wears a black suit and tie with a black hat. He still has his moustache.

Personality

He is shown to be extremely intelligent and cultured (though extremely old-fashioned), but an egotistical and arrogant boy who dislikes just about everyone except himself. He has a crush on Carly and has tried more than once (unsuccessfully) to get Carly to kiss him. He continually says that she will "Rue the day", or seriously regret it, whenever Carly, Sam, and Freddie outsmart and defeat him, but from Carly doing things like dropping guacamole on him, pushing tapenade in his face when he unceremoniously kisses her, and cheering when the video of him yelling at the little girl goes viral, it's clear that she understandably despises Nevel so much that she will never regret hurting him. In the alternate reality in iChristmas, he was Carly's boyfriend. He's also infamous for his snobbish and pompous voice.

Nevel possesses a tendency to boast and glorify himself and his achievements and has a well-developed ego. Examples of his snobbish behavior include his mysophobia (hatred of filth and germs) and his overuse of outdated words such as "banter" (conversation), "rue" (extreme regret), and "shan't" (contraction for shall not).

Relationships

Prunella Pitz

IFaked It (3)

Nevel with his wife Prunella

(Unknown-present; Wife)
Nevel and Prunella first met when playing Robot Uprising and became friends. Their relationship was purely platonic and together, they made an elaborate plan to trick Carly into marrying Nevel. However, during the process of planning the wedding, Prunella falls for Nevel. On the day of the wedding, she professes her feelings for him by turning on her LED belt, which says "I really do love Nevel." The two end up getting married. Two years later, its revealed they work together to make Carly look bad and make it look like she is selling a food product that is making the residents of Seattle sick. It is also revealed that the two took pleasure from this act and it spiced up their love life. After Nevel agrees to stop, Prunella almost divorces him as she believes all they had to make their relationship work was to mess with Carly, but they stay together.

Carly Shay

Nevel and Carly as kids

(2007-2012; Enemy, 2021-Present Former Crush; Frenemy)
When Nevel first met Carly, he was kind to her and liked her webshow until he kissed her and she shoved food on his face. Ever since, Nevel and Carly have had a strong hatred towards each other, but he still had a crush on her. The rival between the two went on for years and he had tried many times to shut down her webshow and show a dislike for her friends Sam and Freddie.

It was shown many years later in the revival, that Nevel still had feelings for Carly when he tied to trick her into marrying him in iRobot Wedding, which she stopped. Two years later, Nevel tried make Carly look bad by creating a deepfake of her selling a product that made the residents sick in iFaked It, including her boyfriend Freddie, much to Carly's anger,. Nevel agreed to stop the deepfake and moved on from Carly due to him being married. Carly also said she was happy for Nevel and Prunella that they worked things out, forming more of a frenemy relationship with him.

Freddie Benson

IRobot Wedding 29

Nevel and Freddie as adults

(2007-2012; Enemy; 2021-Prresent; Frenemy)
When Nevel and Freddie were kids, they did not get along at all due to Nevel tormenting the iCarly trio by tricking them into selling a car to him in iGive Away a Car, but Nevel didn't seem to dislike Freddie as much as Carly and Sam and Freddie showed more sympathy towards Nevel at times. However, in iHalfoween, Nevel tricked Freddie into wearing a robot costume and got dunked.

Years later in the revival episode iRobot Wedding, Nevel asks Freddie to be his best man to his wedding to Prunella Pitz, even though the wedding at first is to trick Carly into marrying Nevel, which is stopped. Nevel also says he could never stand Freddie, offending him. Two years later in iFaked It, Nevel deepfakes himself to look like Freddie is selling a rancid pasta dish named Tastes Famiglia. Although Freddie is grossed out with how Nevel has made the deepfake, he does say she is impressed with the work.

Sam Puckett

0039cqkz

Nevel and Sam

(2007-2014; Enemy)
Nevel was shown to be somewhat terrified of Sam and admitted to being scared of her in iFight Shelby Marx. Sam often threatened Nevel a lot and beat him up like in iGive Away a Car. Sam often made fun of Nevel's appearance such as when she would call his head a melon ball. Nevel was often yelled at by Sam, unlike Carly and Freddie. Over the rest of the series, Nevel would torment Sam with Carly and Freddie like tricking them into sounding funny with sweets in iHalfoween. The two later saw each other again in the show Sam & Cat, where Sam visited Nevel to ask for help and she still made fun of him, especially when she learnt he was in a detention centre for his behaviour.

Spencer Shay

(2007-Present; Frenemy)

003bbdsw

Nevel and Spencer

Nevel always had more of a frenemy relationship with Carly's brother Spencer, than enemy, as Nevel never actually did anything bad to Spencer like he did with Sam, Carly and Freddie. However, Spencer liked making fun of Nevel by calling him names and was not impressed upon learning Nevel tried to kiss Carly upon meeting her in iNevel. Nevel liked to tease Spencer in return for not being very smart. In iChristmas during an alternate reality, Spencer approved of Nevel dating Carly and they showed to respect each other. In episodes like iGive Away a Car and iHalfoween, Spencer liked to get Nevel back for tormenting Freddie, Carly and Sam, but Spencer did show signs of feeling sorry for Nevel in episodes like iPity The Nevel, when he cane to the iCarly gang for help.

In the revival series, Nevel and Spencer show more respect for one another and they are shown to be more friendly, enough for Nevel to invite Spencer, Carly, Freddie and their friends to his wedding to Prunella Pitz-Pepperman (although it is a trick at first to get Carly to marry Nevel). Two years later in iFaked It, Nevel tricks Spencer into deepfaking himself to look like Carly, to trick Spencer into selling a rancid pasta dish called Tastes Famiglia at Shay What?! Spencer agrees to help Carly and Freddie get back at Nevel. Spencer does, however, approve of Nevel and Prunella buying a fancy kitchen aid.

Minor Relationships

Harper Bettencourt: Harper learns of Nevel in iRobot Wedding and he invites her to his wedding to Prunella, as he originally does it to trick Carly into marrying him. Harper helps Carly and Freddie get back at Nevel in iFaked It, after he deepfakes himself as Carly to sell a rancid pasta dish.

Millicent Mitchell: Like Harper, Millicent meets and learns of Nevel in iRobot Wedding. Nevel also invites Millicent to his wedding but they don't interact with each other. However, Millicent seems to find Nevel a little strange after learning what he did to Carly and Freddie when they were kids. In iFaked It, along with Harper, Millicent helps Carly, Freddie, and Spencer get back at Nevel for deepfaking himself as Carly and Freddie to sell the rancid pasta dish, Tastes Famiglia.

Trivia

  • In iNevel, Nevel's age was given to be around 11, but in iFight Shelby Marx, Shelby Marx describes him as being about the age of herself and the iCarly cast. iFight Shelby Marx takes place nearly two years after iNevel, as Nevel may have been turning 13 while the iCarly crew were turning 15.
  • In iRue the Day, Nevel states that he isn't scared of Sam, but in iFight Shelby Marx, he admits that he is scared of her; it's likely that he only said it in the former episode because she wasn't there in person.
  • Nevel appeared in 8 episodes.
  • Nevel made a return in the Sam & Cat special, "#SuperPsycho" as he was in a mental hospital that his mother put him due to a virus he has. He later broke out and meets up with Gibby for dinner.
  • Nevel is banned from Fooders.
  • In Nickelodeon UK's subtitles for iChristmas, iGive Away a Car and iFight Shelby Marx — Part 2, Nevel's name is misspelt as Neville.[6]
  • Nevel has a framed x-ray of his brain.[3]
  • Nevel appears in the iCarly revival series in episode 5 IRobot Wedding, and then returns in the season 3 episode IFaked It.
  • Since Nevel appears the most out of all the antagonists on the show, he can be considered the main antagonist.
  • The name Nevel is that of French origin, possibly meaning Nevel might have some French ancestry. There is also a character in the Harry Potter universe named Neville Longbottom, but spelt differently.
  • His lifelong dream is to own a haberdashery, established in iGive Away a Car and indirectly referenced in iFaked It.
  • Like Freddie, Nevel is very skilled with computers.
  • He, Freddie, Marissa and Nora are the only characters to appear in all three shows.
